Why Is Water Coming From My Ductless Mini-Split?

The ductless mini-split in your Indialantic, FL, home should never leak water. Water leaks have the potential to lead to bacterial growth and a host of other problems, so it’s important to respond to them quickly. Read on to learn why your ductless mini-split is leaking water if you’re experiencing this problem in your home.

Clogged Air Filters

The indoor coils of the ductless mini-split need adequate airflow to keep from freezing. A dirty air filter is unable to provide the indoor coils with the necessary airflow. When coils don’t receive the airflow they need, they’ll freeze over.

A leak can develop when ice starts to melt from the indoor coils. You might see water draining down the wall or in a puddle beneath the ductless mini-split system.

Damaged Drain Pans

Your ductless mini-split has a drain pan that collects the condensation that your system generates as it runs. Any sort of defect with the pan allows the water to leak. It’s common for these drain pans to rust, which creates the perfect opportunity.

It’s also for the drain pan to suffer damage if you’ve dropped it while cleaning it. Any liquid that goes into the pan will simply leak out of the crack. Occasional maintenance makes it possible to know when it’s time to replace the drain pan.

Clogged Condensate Line

The condensate line is a tube that allows water to drain out of the drain pan. The condensate line is narrow, and dirt and debris can easily accumulate inside and cause a blockage.

It’s a good idea to respond quickly if you have a clogged condensate line. If left untreated, a condensate line clog can easily turn into a break, which creates a number of issues.
